Variable Renewables

Jens Carsten Hansen has 38 years of professional experience as an engineer and scientist, and has since 1982 been employed at the Department of Wind Energy, Technical University of Denmark (DTU Wind Energy). Since 2000 he has been the manager of international research-based consulting and since 2002 the Head of Section of Integration and Planning (previously Wind Energy Systems). The work as a scientist has primarily been within wind power applications undertaken in parallel with activities as consultant in international wind power projects as project manager and expert. The work has involved feasibility studies, planning and implementation of pilot and demonstration of wind farm projects as well as wind atlas and resource assessment projects.

Poul Sørensen is professor in the area of Wind Power Integration and Control in the Department of Wind Energy. He has worked with wind energy research since 1987 including involvement and management of several national, Nordic and European projects with other research institutes, wind energy industry and grid operators. He is involved in standardisation as a member of IEC 61400-21 on Electrical characteristics (power quality) since it started in 1997, and as convener of IEC 61400-27 on Electrical simulation models for wind power plants since it started in 2009. Poul Sørensen has special research interest in modelling of wind power variability and uncertainties, and he is the research leader in the development of DTU Wind Energy’s software CorWind, which simulates time series for wind power fluctuations and forecasts taking into account spatial and temporal correlations.

Niels-Erik Clausen is associate professor and Head of DTU Wind Energy Study Board. He has worked with wind energy and wind energy applications since 2000 and been involved in educational administration and quality assurance of teaching since 2007. His research area is planning and development of wind farms on land and offshore including assessment of environmental impact of wind energy. He has worked as principal investigator, work package leader and later project manager in a series of Nordic projects related to assessment of climate change impact on renewable energy resources and on the energy system as well in projects related to application of wind energy in cold climate areas with icing of wind turbines. The research area has recently been expanded with social acceptability of wind energy and public involvement.
